MSU students had the opportunity to visit the capital and give back to the community at the same time. This year Beta Alpha Psi held its national convention in Washington D.C. Students from different chapters throughout the nation worked together throughout the week on various projects. At the annual convention, speakers stressed the importance of community service to the members of Beta Alpha Psi. “Get Involved, Stay Involved” was a recurring topic throughout the week. The main goal was to demonstrate the importance of community involvement within any given profession. Beta Alpha Psi asked its members to stay involved once they got into the accounting profession. Speakers challenged students to search for a company that showed enthusiasm towards its community as well. Students participated in many community service projects. The students worked together on one of the three options. One project involved making sandwiches and sack lunches for the homeless. Another involved gathering toiletries such as toothpaste and deodorant for individuals. The students from MSU participated in sewing felt together to make a knap sack which they filled with school supplies. The stuffed bags were then sent to four schools from the Mississippi coast: St. Martin East Elementary School, Grace Baptist Academy, New Life Academy, and St. Martin North Elementary. The students were able to give something to the children who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. |
