It has been 36 years since Dr. Edd Milam began teaching accounting and taxation to students throughout Mississippi. A reception to recognize Dr. Milam for his 16 years of service to Mississippi State University took place on July 14 at the Hunter Henry Center. Family, friends, colleagues, and students gathered for an afternoon of refreshments and conversation.

“We will definitely miss Dr. Milam and his work with the tax program,” said Dr. Dan Hollingsworth, Interim Dean of the College of Business and Industry and a tax professor. “His impact on the students will be long lasting. I don’t think I have ever seen a professor that cares so much about his students.”

Dr. Milam says he will miss the daily interactions with his students. He enjoys watching them develop and mature. “I hope that my students will have learned something, be it course material, work ethic or professionalism, and that will help them in their career and in life.” Dr. Milam said. He will also miss getting to visit with alumni during their visits throughout the school year.

Many of Dr. Milam’s students were anxious to express their experiences with Milam during the school year. “Dr. Milam has been my favorite teacher throughout my entire school career,” said Kaddie Taylor who has worked as a graduate assistant for Milam since August 2005. “He is really good about helping students, and making sure they have jobs lined up after they graduate.”

Although the students and faculty will miss Dr. Milam greatly, most of them are aware that he will be fairly accessible throughout the upcoming year. “At least for this year, I will continue to do our Tax Update Seminars,” said Dr. Milam. “Thus I will stay active and hopefully up to date in the tax area.”

Dr. Milam will most likely spend his free time hunting, fishing, playing tennis, and traveling.
