Dr. Chris Poullaos of the University of Sydney was the keynote speaker at the 2006 Mid-South Doctoral Consortion held on October 13, 2006. Five School of Accountancy faculty and four doctoral students attended the one-day seminar that focused on current financial accounting and auditing research. Dr. Poullaous provided a historical glimpse into how accounting profession grew from its roots in Great Britian. The study sheds light into why different countries and states have different certification requirements, a fact that is becoming a problem in today's global economy. Ph.D. student Charles Pryor and Dr. Noel Addy of MSU's School of Accountancy presented their paper "The Effect of Revenue Recognition Standards on the Association Between Accruals and Cash Flows." The paper provided additional evidence on how changes in generally accepted accounting principles can impact other financial statement items. The Mid-South Doctoral Consoritum is a joint project of Mississippi State University, the University of Memphis, and the University of Mississippi. Representatives of each university present a paper at the annual meeting. |
