Sharing a Tick Mark Toolbar

I have received many requests for the graphic files containing the tick marks illustrated in the article. In response, I have posted a zip file containing my personal.xls file and the related graphics. Click here to download the file toolbar.zip. IMPORTANT NOTE: Versions of Windows issued after this article was published have changed where the necessary files are stored. If you get an error message when clicking on any of the symbols, learn how to adapt the files for your Excel by watching one of these videos: Excel 2003 or Excel 2007. |
You can use these files in a variety of ways, depending on whether you have begun to create your own tick mark toolbar.
Use the graphic images only -- Follow these instructions if you have already created your personal.xls file and tick mark toolbar, but you what to add some of my images.
Extract toolbar.zip to a new folder.
Copy the desired graphic files to the folder containing your current graphic files.
Follow the article instructions beginning on the middle of page 35 to create the macros and add the macro to the toolbar.
Use the personal.xls file -- Follow these instructions if you want to use my personal.xls file and its graphics.
Make a backup copy of your current personal.xls file.
Extract toolbar.zip to the Windows/Application Data/Microsoft/Excel/Xlstart folder.
Share your personal.xls file with others -- Follow these instructions to share your personal.xls and graphic files with others in your office.
Unhide the personal file
Click Tools, Customize, Attach….
Click OK and Close the dialog box.
Save the personal.xls file and Symbols folder to a disk.
On the other computer, copy the personal.xls file and Symbols folder to the Windows/Application Data/Microsoft/Excel/Xlstart folder.
