SUBJECT:     Business Prerequisites for MBA and MSBA programs

DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:

The following courses or their equivalents are required as minimum preparation for the MBA or MSBA program.  These courses may be taken after being admitted to the program, however MBA students must complete these requirements prior to taking the corresponding MBA core courses.  Students will not be permitted to take comprehensive/oral examinations, nor will they be allowed to graduate without fulfilling prerequisite requirements.

 

The following courses or equivalents are required prerequisites for the MBA and all MSBA programs:

DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS FOR CHANGING POLICY:

Majority vote by the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.

 

DESCRIPTION OF RELATED PROCEDURE:

Upon admission to the MBA or MSBA program, the Office of Graduate Studies in Business will check students’ transcripts for fulfillment of prerequisites.  Satisfaction may be evidenced by either formal coursework or testing (i.e., CLEP or DANTES), or by providing substantial written evidence of course content knowledge gained through related career experience or coursework in other areas.  During pre-registration advising, GSB office staff will review prerequisite requirements with students and indicate which prerequisites must still be taken to satisfy requirements.  A proposed Program of Study Plan will be used to check off completed prerequisites and indicate when remaining courses are to be taken.  Original copies of the plan will be kept in students’ record folders.  MBA students who cannot take a full load (9 hours) of prerequisites in one term may be permitted to take core classes for which they have taken the corresponding prerequisite courses.
