SUBJECT: Frequency
of Qualifying and Preliminary Examinations
DATE: May 4, 2000
DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:
Written preliminary examinations
will be offered twice a year by each academic area. Scheduling and administration will be done at the
department/school level with central coordination by the Office of Graduate
Studies in Business.
DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS
FOR CHANGING POLICY:
Majority vote by the College
of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
DESCRIPTION OF RELATED
PROCEDURE:
The schedule of Preliminary
Examination Dates is maintained by the Office of Graduate Studies in
Business. The schedule is updated for
the coming calendar year each November when specific dates are listed. The calendar also lists the normal exam
times for each department’s exams (e.g. second Friday in March). An examination in one business area is not
allowed to fall within two weeks of an exam in another business area. Priority for requested examination dates is
on a first come first serve basis.
Thus, those areas with standing schedules receive top priority during updating. In the absence of request from the academic
units for changes, the prior schedule will be duplicated, based on the weekday
during the month (i.e., third Friday in June) when updating the schedule. The preference is to schedule examinations
on Fridays.
REVIEW OF
POLICY/PROCEDURE:
This COBI-AOP will be reviewed at least every five years by the Graduate Policies Committee at the request of the Graduate Director with request for revision presented to the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
