SUBJECT: Eligibility
to Take Preliminary (Written) Examinations
DATE: May 4, 2000
DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:
After finishing all programmed
coursework in an area and after completing 18 hours of graduate coursework at
Mississippi State University, the student may schedule the Preliminary
Examination in that area. Completion of
Qualifying Examination, Minor Preliminary Examinations, and/or all course work
for students may be required to qualify for sitting for the Major Preliminary
Examination.
DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS
FOR CHANGING POLICY:
Majority vote by the College
of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
DESCRIPTION OF RELATED
PROCEDURE:
It is the sole
responsibility of the students to notify the Graduate Studies in Business
Office and the appropriate department of the their intent to take an exam so
that the office can verify appropriate qualifications. Notification must be made at least 30 days
prior to the scheduled date of the examination they plan to take. Extenuating circumstances may be cause for
being excused from the exam. The
student may apply in writing to be excused to the Director of Graduate Studies
in Business. The acceptability of the
excuse will be determined by the Director of Graduate Studies in Business.
REVIEW OF
POLICY/PROCEDURE:
This COBI-AOP will be reviewed at least every five years by the Graduate Policies Committee at the request of the Graduate Director with request for revision presented to the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
