SUBJECT:     Scheduling Dissertation Proposal Defense

DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:

Following passage of the Comprehensive Examination, the student is eligible to schedule the Dissertation Proposal Defense.  The Proposal Defense will not be scheduled sooner than two weeks after a copy of the dissertation proposal has been distributed to all members of the student’s Graduate Dissertation Committee and to the academic unit within which the major is housed.

 

DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS FOR CHANGING POLICY:

Majority vote by the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.

                       

DESCRIPTION OF RELATED PROCEDURE:

A student must be enrolled during the semester in which the Proposal Defense is administered.  The defense is scheduled by the Chairman of the Graduate Dissertation Committee through the Office of Graduate Studies and is administered by the student’s Graduate Dissertation Committee.  The request to schedule the Proposal Defense must  be made to the Office of Graduate Studies in Business at least two weeks prior to the anticipated date of the examination.  The Proposal Defense is open to all interested parties and a copy of the proposal is available through the unit housing the major.

 

REVIEW OF POLICY/PROCEDURE:

This COBI-AOP will be reviewed at least every five years by the Graduate Policies Committee at the request of the Graduate Director with request for revision presented to the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
