Proposal Defense Results

DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:
A four-fifths approval vote
of the Graduate Dissertation Committee will constitute approval of the
dissertation proposal, provided all members from the academic area of the
student’s major vote to approve.
DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS
FOR CHANGING POLICY:
Majority vote by the College
of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
DESCRIPTION OF RELATED
PROCEDURE:
At the conclusion of the
public proposal defense, the Graduate Dissertation Committee will meet in
closed session, with and/or without the student, regarding the results of the
Dissertation Proposal Defense. The
committee may approve, approve subject to revisions, delay the decision, or
disapprove the student’s dissertation proposal. At the conclusion of the committee’s deliberations, the chairman
of the committee or director of the dissertation will inform the student of the
results. The results of the
Dissertation Proposal Defense are to be transmitted to the Office of Graduate
Studies using the “Dissertation Proposal Results “ form provided. All members of the committee are required to
sign the form. In the event the
proposal is approved: the provided
Graduate School “Admission to Candidacy” form must be signed by the chairman of
the committee and the director of the dissertation; and the MSU Office of
Graduate Studies will be notified of the student’s admission to candidacy. In the event the proposal is not approved,
the student must take the necessary remedial action in order to achieve
approval.
REVIEW OF
POLICY/PROCEDURE:
This COBI-AOP will be reviewed at least every five years by the Graduate Policies Committee at the request of the Graduate Director with request for revision presented to the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
