Defense of the Dissertation Results

DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:
No more than one dissenting vote
will be allowed for a student to pass the dissertation defense, and all members
from the academic area of the student’s major must vote affirmatively.
DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS
FOR CHANGING POLICY:
Majority vote by the College
of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
DESCRIPTION OF RELATED
PROCEDURE:
At the conclusion of the
public defense, the Graduate Dissertation Committee and the representative of
the Graduate Council will meet in closed session, with and/or without the
student, regarding the results of the Final Defense of the Dissertation. The committee may pass, pass subject to
minor revision, delay the decision, or fail the student on the Final
Defense. At the conclusion of the
committee’s deliberations, the chairman of the committee or director of the
dissertation will inform the student of the results. The results of the Final Defense are to be transmitted to the MSU
Office of Graduate Studies using the Graduate School’s “Report of Examination
Results” form provided. All members of
the committee are required to sign the form.
The MSU Office of Graduate Studies will be notified of the results by
the Graduate Studies in Business Office.
REVIEW OF
POLICY/PROCEDURE:
This COBI-AOP will be reviewed at least every five years by the Graduate Policies Committee at the request of the Graduate Director with request for revision presented to the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
