SUBJECT:     Retake Standard for Final Defense of the Dissertation

 

DATE:                        May 4, 2000

 

DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:

A student who fails the Final Defense of the Dissertation cannot apply for another until a period of six months has elapsed from the date of the original Final Defense.  Two failures on the Final Defense of the Dissertation will result in the student being dropped from further consideration as a doctoral candidate.

 

DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS FOR CHANGING POLICY:

The above policy is that of the MSU Office of Graduate Studies and is subject to change by appropriate action of the Graduate Council.  Only the College specific aspects are subject to majority vote of the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.

 

DESCRIPTION OF RELATED PROCEDURE:

The Final Defense of the Dissertation is scheduled by the Chairman of the Graduate Dissertation Committee through the Office of Graduate Studies in Business at least two weeks prior to the date desired for examination.

 

REVIEW OF POLICY/PROCEDURE:

This COBI-AOP will be reviewed at least every five years by the Graduate Policies Committee at the request of the Graduate Director with request for revision presented to the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
