SUBJECT: Determination
of Doctoral Dissertation Committee

DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:
The doctoral student’s
Graduate Dissertation Committee is approved by the Director of Graduate Studies
in Business and consists of at least five (5) members. The base requirements in constituting the
committee are as follows: all members
must be on the Graduate Faculty; at least three members, one of which is the
chairman and must be a full member of the Graduate Faculty, are from the major
and the remaining members from areas germane to the dissertation.

FOR CHANGING POLICY:
Other that the approval of
members, which is the responsibility of the Director of Graduate Studies in
Business, the other aspects of the policy are subject to majority vote by the
College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
DESCRIPTION OF RELATED
PROCEDURE:
The student is to obtain a “Graduate
Committee Appointment Request” form from the Office of Graduate Studies in
Business. The student is then to check
with the administrator of the academic unit housing the major as to possible
members, to include the chairman, from the major area. The student, in consultation with the
potential chairman, should select the remaining members to be requested. Any member of the committee may be
designated and serve as the director of the dissertation. All potential members are required to
indicate their willingness to serve on the committee by signing the form. The administrator of the unit housing the
major is required to sign the form indicating approval of the members requested
from the major. When all required
signatures have been obtained, the form is to be returned to the Office of
Graduate Studies in Business for approval and appointment of the committee by
the Director of Graduate Studies in Business.
REVIEW OF
POLICY/PROCEDURE:
This COBI-AOP will be reviewed at least every five years by the Graduate Policies Committee at the request of the Graduate Director with request for revision presented to the College of Business and Industry Graduate Faculty.
